Natalie Cole-Dangerous (1985)

ORIGINAL POSTING DATE: February 21, 2011

Ah, back to the 80's.....and Natalie Cole! And taking the title to her 1989 album, it feels so 'good to be back', too. When I saw this one was requested a few days ago, it occurred to me that I hadn't ever heard this album in its entirety—much like most of Natalie's 80's and 70's albums before she became a recognized figure in contemporary jazz music. Funny thing is, I had recently sent my Russian friend Oleg an original vinyl copy of 1985's "Dangerous" just out of random, hoping he would like it. So even he's heard it before I have. If you had a treasure chest full of 80's pop gems, "Dangerous" should be part of the overflowing stockpile. This is some music that makes you stop what you doing and gets you tappin' your fingers down at the office desk or on your thigh while you're driving.....well, at least the faster-tempo ones like the title track, "Billy The Kid Next Door" and "Your Car (My Garage)", which could be seen as the 'sister song' to her cover of Bruce Springsteen's hit, "Pink Cadillac". Track #8's dreamy "Love Is On The Way" is a beauty—one of those songs that takes your mind away into another place and one that you wish could play on all day long. So look out—the music on this album is 'dangerously' good:

1. Dangerous
2. Billy The Kid Next Door
3. Secrets
4. Nobody's Soldier
5. Opposites Attract
6. A Little Bit Of Heaven
7. Your Car (My Garage)
8. Love Is On The Way
9. The Gift
