This is the first in a short series of country music albums I want to feature at "The Music Spectrum". My mind has been crying to get back to country music for a long time because I hadn't listened to much of it over the past year except for some occasional cross-over pop hits on the radio. But thanks to my music friend Kim, who I believe loves country music as much as I do, I finally got the push I needed. I recently sent her a copy of "Girls Get In Free"—the last album to be released by the Austin, Texas native, Trish Murphy. But since this one also seems to be rare, I told her I was going to feature it on my blog, so here it is. The first thing that stood out to me about Trish is her remarkable voice. And then there were the lyrics; I always pay close attention to country music lyrics because they're the main reason why country music is country to begin with. My favorite song is "The Trouble With Trouble" because the story is so hilarious yet so true—about trouble starting off as being something fun but ending up being a total disaster. And the mentioning of K-MART in the lyrics is just classic—it don't get more country than that. I also love "Crying As Fast As I Can"—again, because of the lyrics; 'I should be done with you by now' is my favorite line of the song. "Love Never Dies (It Just Gives Up)" is another great song along the lines of "Crying As Fast As I Can" where Trish offers valuable words of wisdom. And for some good ole-fashioned foot-stompin' country, check out "Cowboy Man" on Track #10, another fun song performed as a duet with fellow Austin, Texas singer Bob Schneider:
1. All I Want
2. The Trouble With Trouble
3. Thelma And Louise
4. Crying As Fast As I Can
5. One For The Boys
6. Love Never Dies (It Just Gives Up)
7. Eternal Dream
8. St. Christopher
9. Paralyzed
10. Cowboy Man
11. I Don't Want To Believe
