Art Porter-Straight To The Point (1993)

ORIGINAL POSTING DATE: January 26, 2012

Let me just get straight to the point: I love jazz music! I needed to hear one more jazz CD of the instrumental variety tonight for my personal enjoyment to kind of clear the head for a while. So I pulled out this one from my collection that I hadn't heard in ages by renowned saxophonist Art Porter. It's a pretty rare one too nowadays, so I feel proud to own my copy of it and to be sharing it with all of you. The opening title track does exactly what its name says and what I said at the beginning of this post—getting straight to the point; Art wastes no time at all showing off his snazzy skills on the sax as he gets down and blows like there's no tomorrow with an accompanying uptempo beat to round it all out. I cite "Someone Like You", "Skirt Chaser" and "Second Time Around" as other moments on this album where I could offer the same complimentary remarks. The realm of contemporary jazz, however, wouldn't exist if there wasn't at least a seductive slow groove or two. "A Day Without You", for example, might be a tune you could do a good amount of romancing with. Or even Track #9's "It's Been A While", if you've haven't had much time lately to share some intimate moments with that special loved one. I could continue talking about how sexy the saxophone is and the wonders that these eleven selections here did for my mind and soul all night long, but I think I've more than made my point:

1. Straight To The Point
2. Someone Like You
3. Autumn In Europe
4. Free Spirit
5. We Should Stay In Love
6. A Day Without You
7. Skirt Chaser
8. Second Time Around
9. It's Been A While
10. It's Your Move
11. Unconditional Love
