I'm feeling some more of that déja vú as I make this post. The debut solo album by the rising Norwegian rock star Atle Pettersen is titled "Based On A True Story"; it was only last month when I featured the album by the Brazilian dance artist Camarco called "Based On A True But Simple Story". And I'm also feeling that destiny is calling me once again. I'd been wanting to explore more music by Norwegian artists for some time, and then my good friend Bill mentions Atle Pettersen—a guy I'd never heard of before until about two weeks ago. And then with me getting back into the rock music..... The timing for me listening to this album right at this juncture is almost spooky, but there ain't nothing scary about the music. Atle demonstrates here why he finished runner-up on the 2010 season of the Norwegian version of "The X-Factor" and why he currently is the lead vocalist to the band he currently fronts called ABOVE SYMMETRY. The guy has a terrifically loud Jon Bon Jovi-like rocker's voice—he puts it to great use on strong rollicking performances like "Another Symphony" and "I Don't Wanna Fall"—and has some excellent words to say in the lyrics to his songs, the poetic "The Finish Line" being the one that I believe was his best written one. My two favorite songs are similar to the progressive 80's-sounding metal rock style of "Another Symphony", but the melodies are so much nicer—"Shine" and "Starlight". I alone listened to "Shine" at least three times before I could place a bookmark on the first chapter of what looks to be a best-selling novel instead of a simple short story for this talented singer:
1. Alive
2. Shine
3. Let Me In
4. Alone
5. I Don't Wanna Fall
6. I'm Home
7. Starlight
8. Save Me
9. The Finish Line
10. Another Symphony
