John Sutherland-Don't Look Back (2006)

ORIGINAL POSTING DATE: February 18, 2012

.....And the last time you heard or saw this guy's face, it most likely was when you were checking out the music by the New York City-based boyband B3. That was the star-studded trio that starred Rod Michael, Timothy Cruz (who had gone on to form REACT with Daniel Metreyeon) and John Sutherland, the guy you see pictured above. John Sutherland—it sounds more like the name of some legendary country star whose been around for years instead of the name of a youngish modern pop star, doesn't it? It's gotta be that 'Sutherland' part of his name. But however you look at it, this guy acts like a big-time legend on his first and only known solo album to date called "Don't Look Back", which could signify that he wants his fans to forget about the earlier years he spent with B3 and embrace the new John Sutherland that emerges here. I received this CD recently after it had been resting patiently on my personal wishlist for ages.....but I wasn't so patient once I unwrapped it and opened up the case. Had been anxious to hear if his sound would retain B3's previous dance-pop roots, though when I finally popped it into the CD player tonight, I got the surprise of my life—an amazing punk rock sound that sounds so fresh that this CD could've been released last week and you wouldn't have even known it. The one song that I was especially looking forward to was his sensational cover of Sir Elton John's classic hit, "Rocket Man". Somewhere, there is a three-track single of it that I'd like to get my hands on, but I'd be totally content with just this album's version—I love it! Captures the emotion and the feeling of Elton John's original perfectly. To complement the strong performance of "Rocket Man" is the amazing cinematic tune, "Lose My Way". I've got to hear that one many, many more times—possibly even more times than hearing "Rocket Man" all over again. "Everywhere But Here" is one of those electric, high-energy progressive type of pop/rock tunes that pumps you up; I'll have to hear much more of this one, too. I'm getting better at following the solo careers of ex-boyband performers, and looking back on all of the ones I've yet to listen to, I have lots of great music to look forward to:

1. Teenage Suburban Queen
2. Everywhere But Here
3. Rocket Man
4. Keep Talking
5. Over The Edge
6. Lose My Way
7. My Love Is Crazy (Single Version)
8. Trouble Child
9. My View
10. Stop Wasting
11. Let It Out
12. Carry On
