Mark Ashley-Golden Hits (2008)

ORIGINAL POSTING DATE: February 15, 2012

I had intended for my current renovation project to include only those albums that needed to be re-uploaded because of sound quality issues or as a result of the 'Megaupload meltdown' (I've written this expression so much in the past couple of weeks that it's starting to feel like normal everyday conversation). "Golden Hits", the second compilation album by the famed German Eurodisco singer Mark Ashley, isn't exactly one of those such albums, although since I had lost my original version of it when the disc I had it on got damaged and, consequently, needed to get a fresh new copy of it in MP3 format, I'd say my posting of it does indeed belong here with the rest of my recent uploads. I'd already owned Mark's other compilation, 2007's "Greatest Hits" from 2007, but wanted "Golden Hits" anyway just for the sake of completion; that right there is telling you how much I adore this guy's music! He's definitely one of my favorite male solo Eurodisco artists. Always liked his distinctively mellow voice—a sound-alike to fellow German singer Thomas Anders and the guys from the German dance group, T.M.-JOY. Haven't listened to him in a looooooooooooong time, so I've been listening to these 'golden hits' for the past day or two. Don't remember about half of these songs, though I'm sure I've heard most of them before, since I've heard all of his albums released since "It's Just The Way" all the way up to "Heartbreak Boulevard". Never too late to make new favorites out of old tunes, then: "Wheel Of Fortune" (I instantly thought about the ACE OF BASE song by the same name when I played this song), "Destination Love" and "Blue Horizon". Excellent techno sound on "Destination Love", and I like the stylized way in which he repeats 'M-m-m-my' and 'Tr-tr-re-try' in the lyrics; it was like hearing THE CLASH singing 'M-m-m-my Sharona' or Lady Gaga singing 'My-My-My poker face'. Fabulous beat for "Blue Horizon"—a combination of rock, techno and disco, plus a beautiful melody to boot. Immensely enjoyed hearing that one again.....so much so that it's headed for my-my-my 'Feelgood Mix' too:

1. Wheel Of Fortune
2. Vienna By Night
3. When The Night Falls
4. Stop Playing Games
5. Could This Be Love?
6. Give Me A Call
7. Spanish Guitar
8. Destination Love
9. Blue Horizon
10. Give Me A Chance
11. You Are My Paradise
12. One Race One World
