Michael Fredo-Introducing Michael Fredo (1999)
Got another cool pop singer to introduce to "The Music Spectrum" tonight: his name is Michael Fredo. Friday fun fact: Michael Fredo is the nephew of the world renowned fashion designer, Tommy Hilfiger. Didn't even know that! And if being related to a famous clothing designer didn't make him famous enough—his 1999 debut saw him achieve even more fame as he entered into the music spotlight for the first time. It was requested by my good friend Frank, and knowing what his taste in pop music is like, I already knew listening to this guy would be another joyride before I had even got my copy of his first CD. And now he's gonna be back in the spotlight again, because after you've read all of the wonderful things I've had to say about him and the songs he presents here, you'll be wanting to spread the word and telling everybody all about it! Michael may not be a master of fashion like his uncle, but he's definitely holding the thread that strings together so many good hits, beginning with "Love All Over Again". The title to that opener speaks the truth; I would indeed love playing it all over again, not to mention the whole album itself. An instant favorite, just like the amazingly magical one that follows—"This Time Around". Sounds like of those brilliant BACKSTREET BOYS productions from the mid-90's! I soooooooooooooo need a remix to this jam! It's headed straight for the 'Feelgood Mix' playlist. And the fact that I've played it about half a dozen times already in the short time I've had the CD indicates that it's become the latest drug in my incurable music addiction! Uh, let's add another drug to that prescription, shall we? How coincidental that this one would be called "Candy (Make It Right)"? Candy in itself is an addiction.....for those of us who have a sweet tooth, anyway. And since candy of any kind makes me feel good, you can bet the song had the same satisfying effect. It's headed to the 'Feelgood Mix' too. It's a case of he said/she said on both the duet, "As Long As I Live" (which features the voice of a singer I've never heard of named Nneka Morton) and the alluring offering, "Who Said?", where the voice of a second female singer (or possibly Nneka Morton again) echoes the words 'who said' at the beginning of nearly every line of the main chorus so delicately that it feels like a seductive whisper. Then the song to die for came later on Track #10: "You Can Always Come Home". The title to that beauty speaks even more truth, because once it became my slow jam for the night, I made up in my mind that I will in fact always come home to it:
1. Love All Over Again
2. This Time Around
3. Do You Think Of Me?
4. Candy (Make It Right)
5. As Long As I Live [feat. Nneka Morton]
6. Who Said?
7. Everybody Wants Her
8. Heartbreaker
9. I Would Do Anything
10. You Can Always Come Home
11. Now You're Gone
